1. Retrofit to existing PV installation (= AC-coupled)

If you already have a solar installation, and you would like to upgrade to a truly UPS/back-up solution with a set of battery-based inverter + batteries, the Multiplus-II would be a good pick. It can indeed seamlessly integrate to your existing system, by taking control of the solar inverter (SMA, SolarEdge, Enphase), and ensuring you will still be powered by your solar panels AND the batteries in case of a grid outage. This is the use case depicted below.

2. Fresh installation : DC coupled solar !

On the opposite, if you do not have any solar installation so far, you could opt for a DC coupled system comprised of a Multiplus-II 48V plus a couple of DC-solar chargers. The latter will operate side-to-side with your battery bank, making sure they’re properly charged each day by the solar panels, with a very high efficiency (as you do NOT have DC-to-AC conversion losses).
